It Started with a Reading Challenge

Layla was working on reading comprehension when her dad, Dr. Jeff Bullock, had an idea: what if they wrote their own book together? They brainstormed ideas and landed on a chicken that dared to learn how to fly.

ChatGPT Asked the Questions. Layla Had the Answers.

Scene by scene, ChatGPT asked Layla questions about what should happen next. She answered from her own imagination. The AI helped structure the story, but every idea came from Layla. One chapter at a time, over multiple months, the book took shape.

The Art Was Made with AI Too

Layla and her dad used MidJourney to create every illustration in the book. Layla learned how to write image prompts and guide the AI to match her vision for each scene. She also used Otter, a speech-to-text AI, to transcribe chapters.

Then She Built a Business

Layla printed the book locally, went door-to-door in her Parkland neighborhood, sold out twice, raised her own price, and has now sold nearly 50 copies. The website, games, and VR experience you see here all grew from that first idea.

AI was the tool. Layla was the author. She came up with the ideas, answered every question, read and edited every chapter, and built the business herself. This is not a story about AI replacing creativity. It is a story about a kid who learned to use AI as a creative partner and turned it into something real.
